Spontaneity Kit Spawns

It was almost noon when Amy suggested we head to DoCo. The coming days were forecasted to be disgusting humid, heat wave, gravy making weather so quick trip to the cooler lake breezes of the peninsula seemed like a good idea. After last years door county cherry experience we opted to pack our own for the car ride up. We had no real plan, but headed first for the beach at Peninsula Park and dipped a toe in the lake and watched a young family navigate multiple kids and sandy towels; before heading for the park trails. We hiked a short distance on Sentinel Trail and took the ramp up the new tower. Amy overcame her fears, but we still took the stairs down. Being Sunday we didn't know what time the towns would start closing down and decided to head back to Fish Creek for some shopping and a bite to eat rather than push further north. As we wandered the streets and boutiques Amy suggested we hit the Whistling Swan for a cherry bourbon smash, and well that tasted pretty good so we got a room. The 'swan' had recently been purchased and there was vacancy; fortunately I had "points" so it was free. Of course we had not planned to spend the night, but Grace was obliging to watch the dogs and Merrick was okay with sleeping in a little later on Monday for our tee time so we finished our drinks and headed to the little market to get toothbrushes, contact solution, and chips and dip. We laughed about having to create a small "spontaneity kit" to keep in the car and irony of such a thing.
We shopped a little more and scoped out various restaurants before settling on the Bayside for some seafood. The host assured us that our casual dress was fine for "Fish Creek in June." We stopped into the Loft for a balcony drink after our meal and then took a stroll down Cottage row, a winding little road for the elite of the area that we had not been down before. It was a quiet cedar lined and limestone fenced road with beautiful views and massive homes that could only be afforded by those that had multiple homes and called these cottages. A little more shopping, and ice cream cone and then back to the Swan for a few more bourbon smashes as promised. We drank, chatted, created a mental list of items to keep in our ever burgeoning spontaneity kit before heading upstairs to play some gin rummy and blackjack. The storms rolled in hard that night, the construction crews started early outside our windows and we had a tee time to make at Hilly Haven. We also could not find an open coffee shop or one with a line we were willing to stand in until we hit Sturgeon Bay for a Starbucks. Home, showered and off to the golf links where all three of us sweated through our shirts. After the links Merrick did give Amy some pointers on the range, for my part I hid an exploding golf ball in the mix for Amy to smash the snot out of.
