An indoorsy trip to Door county. It was Amy’s birthday and we grabbed a room at the Whistling Swann. We were newly engaged and the constant rain and cool weather couldn’t keep our smiles away. Amy knew the proprietor of the bed and breakfast and Craig’s book was in the lobby. Bood smells and familiar scenes. We had the bikes on the Subaru with plans of riding through the state park but the rain kept us at bay. We ate well, choosing the Whistling Swann the first night and then lucked into an Oktoberfest Feast on Saturday night with Loads of sausage and kraut. Saturday we drove to the tip of the Door, Gills Rock, and the colors of the maples were at peak yellow and orange. The rain added to the view creating the perfect light. The final stretch is a curvy, winding road designed to slow you down and enjoy the view. It is a good design. We bought smoked fish and struggled to find a place to eat it. We spent the r...
