ChiTown
An urban trip for Amy and I this time. We headed to the ACME in Chicago. It is a super hip and newly opened hotel that has plenty of hipster quirks to go along with the flying mannequins that appear outside our windows. The door has a chalkboard and Amy beat me at tic tac toe, each making a move when we came and went. A great, useful knock and drop service allowed us to get our thermos of coffee without getting dressed. We drove down after work and walked to get the Best pizza in the world at Lou Malanoti’s and then walked along the lights at night to fill up on Ghirardelli’s chocolate squares for walking around. We looked over the stone bridge at the river below and the lights above. The weather was brisk but not unpleasant, we spend some time hiking along the storefronts of the Magnificient mile. We took a ride on the horse drawn carriage and laughed that it mostly took us right back to our hotel and the sights we had already seen. Saturday we put on the miles and saw bit sites, Trump tower, Hancock building and many of the standard stores we seek out: Patagonia, Northface. Amy spent some time test driving new Coach purses but even after a stop on the way home didn’t buy any. We stepped aside and let a Trump protest pass us by and registered several times for lottery tickets to see Hamilton. Vowing to get proper theatre clothes if we won tickets. We felt right lucky however when we saw the theatre flooded with emergency vehicles and we were safely outside. We caught a snack at Eatily, a cute little store. WE had drinks at the adult bar down stairs, a hip little place before heading back to our room to sit in the ‘living room’ portion and listen to the sounds of the city, watch the lights of the life down below and snuggle into the comfort of each other and the love of being together.
