We hit the restaurant next to the hotel for breakfast,
which was great. A little Swedish pancake/ lingonberries and all before
catching a late flight back home.
The girls were dropped off at the ‘ Mowegians ” and we started heading north. Amy and I had wanted to get in a long hike to test some of our new gear and what better way to do it than a quick overnighter in the Northwoods. Initially we were going to head to Raven trail and both hike an scout the area for cross country skiing in the winter. We weren’t convinced that we could camp there legally overnight and instead headed to the big woods of the National Forest and hiked Hidden Lakes trail. It turns out that the lakes are not that well-hidden, they are on the map, the trails go right to them and there are even signs that tell they names of the lakes as well. That being said, after a quick stop for sustenance at Donna’s Café and ten minutes to order and eat before they closed at 1:30pm we headed east out of Eagle River. It did have a nice clean restroom however, which is more that can be said for the gas station we used on the way up on the way up...
We wanted to get to the Pork Store for breakfast. The original Pork Store was in Haight Ashbury. The local in the area are not known for early rising and the Haight still had a glaze from the night before. The murals on the walls were great, with trippy bold colors and themes that are expected in the epicenter of the counter culture. Breakfast was outstanding. Amy got a Caliscracious omelet that was great. We hit a couple of open stores, a cigar shop and small market. Put a kale salad and an orange in our day pack and strolled off toward the Pacific Ocean. We walked through Golden Gate Park and accidentally sneaked into the Botanical gardens. The gardens were beautiful, but we got turned around pretty quickly on the winding trails and without having paid were a little hesitant to ask for help. We found our way back into the sprawling acreage of Golden Gate Park and the statues around de Young Museum. We popped out at the Beach ...
Amy and I had spring break together and the kids were still in school, it was time to get out of town. WE found cheap flights to Nashville and headed back to Tennessee. We grabbed a stay at a new hotel, Cambria and were in town by 7 pm after a full day of work. We walked from the hotel to Pucketts and had our first Nashville meal. The place was packed and we slid across the grease floor to the bar seating for drinks and collard greens. The Band was setting up and the sounds, smells, and BBQ flavor was what we had imagined Nashville would be. We had almost no itinerary for this trip and only a handful of restaurants and honky tonk bars to hit, but in no particular order and at no particular time. We ate the hot chicken at Hattie B’s, standing in line for 90 minutes was worth i. SO too was Ubering back to the hotel when the down pour of rain came. There was a group of bachelor parties in line all dressed up as Mexican wrestler...
